Short Biography:

Professor Dr. M. Zahangir Kabir has been teaching Media, Journalism and Communication courses and administering the relevant teaching departments for more than fifteen years as Chairmen / HODs and Professor / Associate Professors at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) Pakistan; Rajshahi University in Bangladesh; Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology in Bangladesh; and Manarat International University (MIU) in Bangladesh. In IUB Pakistan, Professor Zahangir Kabir had been teaching media studies and journalism courses for both undergraduate, post-graduate programs, and supervising M.Phil. Students’ Research as well.

M. Zahangir Kabir earned a Ph.D. Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Mysore in India under Government Scholarship Scheme. Apart from his Masters in Journalism from the University of Dhaka, he also obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism for Developing Countries from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi under another Scholarship Scheme.

Out of his 42 years of national, regional and international job experience in teaching, research, training and educational administration, he has got more than 30 years of relevant professional/working experience after his PhD Degree. He possess more than 15 years of university teaching and administrative experiences in Media Studies / Journalism in Bangladesh and Pakistan specially, to teach and undertake research in most of the journalism and communication courses and programs.

Throughout the past fifteen years and beyond, he taught a variety of Media and Journalism courses in Pakistan and Bangladesh as following:  

Concepts and History of Communication, Concepts and History of Journalism, Islamic Perspective of Media and Communication, Mass Media in Bangladesh, Media Ethics and Laws, News Reporting and Writing, Investigative Journalism, Writing for New Media, Bangladesh and World Affairs / Current Affairs, Media Society and Politics in Bangladesh, Film Reading, Global Media Systems, Media and Contemporary Social Challenges in Bangladesh, Media Society and Politics in Bangladesh, Corporate Communications and Public Relations, Journalistic English, Mass Media and Social Development, Approaches to Mass Communication Research, Photojournalism, Printing and Publishing, Producing Students Online Practice Newspapers, Conducting students Seminars.

Professor Zahangir Kabir also worked as a Member of National Curriculum Revision Committee for Media Studies and Journalism of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. He has also designed the detail undergraduate and graduate Curriculum for Media and Communication courses while working in numerous universities of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Apart from his university teaching jobs in media and journalism, he also worked in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in his discipline of media and communications related research and development activities and served as   Director of SAARC Agricultural Information Centre (SAIC) for two terms from 1994 to 1999 and 2001 to 2002. He also served the SAARC Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC), Islamabad, Pakistan as Director for three and half years from December 2002 to June 2006.
